Our team will be working alongside veteran BIMI missionaries Raymond and Anita Bradley. Missionary Raymond Bradley is Deaf; his wife Anita is hearing. The Bradleys have been greatly used of the Lord to bring the Gospel to the Deaf in Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador.
In Guayaquil, the Bradleys run a school for the Deaf. The school teaches primarily Ecuadorian sign language (LSEC) but uses some American Sign Language (ASL) signs. Missionary Bradley pastors a Deaf church in Guayaquil. He preaches in sign language and his preaching is then interpreted into spoken Spanish for the hearing people who attend the church. Through their school, church, and community outreach, the Bradleys have seen many people trust Christ as Savior.
In Ecuador, as in many other countries, there are many Deaf people. According to Consejo Nacional de Discapacidades (CONADIS), the national disability organization, there were approximately 213,000 Ecuadorian Deaf people in 2010. There are limited educational opportunities and resources for Deaf people in Ecuador. Ministries like the Bradleys' are a vital outreach to an under-reached people group.
